The Umatilla National Forest intends to conduct pile burning operations over the new few weeks in various locations across the Forest. Visitors may see smoke from these operations and are encouraged to use caution if approaching an active pile burn. Roads and areas surrounding pile burning activity will be signed.
All burns will be monitored until a season ending rain or snow event occurs.
Pile burning this week:
The Heppner Ranger District will be pile burning in the Henry RX Project west of Highway 207 along Forest Service Road (FSR) 25. In addition, the Heppner Ranger District will be pile burning in the Whiskey RX Project and Burnt Cabin RX Project near Highway 207 and FSR 24. The Heppner Ranger District will also be pile burning in the Stahl RX Project west of Highway 207 near FSR 21. For more information, call (541) 676-9187.
The Pomeroy Ranger District will be pile burning in the Upper Pataha RX Project near the Alder Thicket area along Forest Service Road (FSR) 40. In addition, the Pomeroy Ranger District will be pile burning in the Little George RX Project near Little Butte Ridge near FSR 43. For more information, call (509) 843-1891.
