Wallowa-Whitman National Forest implementing prescribed fires

Wallowa-Whitman National Forest will engage in prescribed fire operations this week as weather conditions allow. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled.

Planned locations include:

  • Little Dean 13D – 234 acres near McEwen
  • Sandbox 605 – 200 acres near Union
  • Deer 6 – 51 acres near Sumpter
  • Limber Jim 603 – 31 acres near La Grande
  • Muddy Sled 501G – 247 acres near Enterprise
  • Additional locations will be posted on InciWeb the Incident Information System

These areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.

More Information

Burn planning and operations consider current and expected air quality and smoke management; residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. Go to www.airnow.gov to find more detailed information about air quality.
